Cool, I'll give it a try. Netflix has had a pretty good success rate with their produced shows thus far. I even watched a few episodes of Lillyhammer, which was quirky but pretty good.
On another note, I had never watched Californication while it was on the air and after Netflix recommended it for me enough I finally gave in. Holy crap is that show crazy! And the teets are a great bonus.
Funny you mention Californication. I put that in my list a few weeks ago, then noticed the episodes are only 30 minutes, so I kind of wrote off watching it. I might have to rethink that.

All Asian T&A, at least in the first episode. That's all I've watched so far, but will keep watching when I have time. Not for the nudity, though. That's fine and all (but there is this internet thing that has endless amounts of nudity), but I like historical dramas, and this is set an interesting time/place (1270s in Kublai Khan's court, for those not familiar). I wish it was Michael Hirst writing it, as he's kind of the king of medeival dramas (The Tudors, The Borgias, Vikings, and Cate Blanchett's Elizabeth movies), but it seems interesting enough.Floyd Robertson wrote:

Don't get me wrong, through seven episodes it's a good story. The Mongols were a gluttonous lot, though.

The Assets was a very good series.
Also, Losing Iraq is a fantastic documentary done by PBS.

Not sure if this is on Netflix, for sure on Amazon prime. We need to talk about Kevin. I'm not sure what to think about this movie. It doesn't suck, it's not awesome. Not a family movie, not horror either.

I found Bosch on Amazon prime. The pilot for this Amazon series was produced and made available last year. Viewers were able to vote on whether or not to move forward with series production. I think the first season will come out this year. If you're a fan of Michael Connell's Bosch books, this looks like it will be pretty good. You can watch the pilot for free. It looks pretty promising.
As for Netflix, I started watching West Wing last week. Somehow, I never watched it when it was running on NBC. Mid way through season 2 and I can't figure out how NBC let this run for seven seasons because it's generally too intelligent for American consumption.

Netflix has big plans for 2015 originals
In addition to new seasons of Cards (Feb. 27) and The Fall (Jan. 16), a BBC series starring Gillian Anderson, spring will bring Bloodline (March 20), a family thriller from the creators of Damages; Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (March 6), a Tina Fey-produced sitcom acquired from NBC; andMarvel's Daredevil, the first of five planned series from the comic-book king.

Anyone watched the Brit series "Black Mirror?" Read good reviews and am only two episodes in but absolutely love it. Basically a modern day Twilight Zone, with a focus on technology.

Solid show - Charlie Brooker does good TV. The first one (pig fucking) was probably the best, but White Bear is very strong.

This show could easily go on for 10 or 12 seasons - it's impossible to find someone in a pool playing this game.

Black Mirror just didnt do it for me. A new plot each episode? It seems lame. I saw the first episode with the pig--just wasnt very good imo.

We like war and drug documentaries. Two awesome front lines documentaries are Korengal and Restrepo. They really give a good idea of what it's like on the front lines actually shooting each other.

Those were both good. I would watch Losing Iraq. Great great insight into how the cluster in Iraq today was formed and how stupid Bush and Obama were.

I watched that 2-3 weeks ago. It was very good. The Brits do pretty good TV.
I've put a few more things on my list like Doc Martin, Foyle's War and Hinterlands. Anything else I should consider?

The Iran Job is a very interesting documentary. It follows a black American playing in the Iranian Super League (basketball) during 2008-09.

I need to look around - only starting to find good stuff on there myself. The Missing was awesome, but you'd have to torrent or pay for that - it's worth it though. I'm told The Fall is pretty good. The Scandinavian crime dramas are damn good, even some of the British remakes. E.g Wallander is very good, as is Borgen, The Bridge etc.
How did you like the ending to Broadchurch? I was blown away, but it was maybe a little too disconnected from previous events. That woman in the caravan was a great character. The second series out in a month or so, and they've filmed multiple endings and are keeping things very secret. Should be good.

You will. All episodes have the theme of commentary on the future (and present) of technology and the media. I didn't care much for 15 Millions Merits or Waldo, but The National Anthem and White Bear are some of the smartest TV ever made.

I started Californication last night and watched the first two episodes. Damn, there's a lot of boobies. I was surprised to see Paula Marshall doing the full frontal. Aside from the boobies, it's pretty funny, but Hank's daughter gives me the creeps (sorry, Forbin).

Been watching Jack Taylor, Irish series about a former cop turned drunk PI in Galway who solves a series of mysteries. Only six episodes in the series, about an hour and half each, but pretty good.

No mentions of Peaky Blinders?
Kind of hard to hear at times with the accents. One of those where you crank the volume when they're speaking and then it's way too loud once they stop speaking and something 'dramatic' happens. Other than that, very solid.

Yeah, really liked that show. Sort of like Boardwalk Empire's British cousin, except with characters you can actually like. Many of the British shows are visually really plain, this is shot beautifully.
