Cecil the Lion was killed by big game hunter/MN dentist Walter J. Palmer of Eden Prarie

Turns out Safari Club member Walter J Palmer DDS is the American who shot Cecil the Lion on shunt that ran him $54K. The trophy lion was reportedly lured from a protected national park to an adjacent hunting farm. To make matters worse once the lion was killed it's tracking collar had been removed and destroyed.

Palmer's dental practice's website has been shut down, his practice in Bllomington is shuttered and Yelp was overrun but comments and threats. Hope the 12-15 people he employed get other work and he's able to retire at 55 because his practice is toast.

Bloomington, Minn. — A Minnesota dentist who went on a guided bow hunting trip for big game in Zimbabwe said he had no idea the lion he killed was protected and that he relied on the expertise of his local guides to ensure the hunt was legal.

You really don't need to make any sense whatsoever to get quoted on this story....

Ingrid Newkirk, president of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, condemned the lion’s killing in a statement.

“To get a thrill at the cost of a life, this man gunned down a beloved lion, Cecil with a high-powered weapon,” the PETA statement said.

oh okay - yeah, it'll be a great show. Big fan of the Avetts for a long time. Their studio stuff, to me, has gotten a bit watered down and overly-produced over the years but still a great, great live act.

Homicides in Chicago are not widely distributed. A majority of homicides happen in a minority of neighborhoods. It's around 25% of the neighbors accounting for 70% of the homicides. These neighborhoods are among the poorest in Chicago as well. So, with the exception of the people that live in those neighborhoods, the concern is rarely real and just political talking points.

Yep, next time anyone is upset about a tragic situation I'm just going to go to the BBC News Website find a tragic situation on the planet with a greater amount of casualties and point out the hypocrisy of their outrage.

Lots of folks trying to flip subjects.

Its ironic that the profession and professional practice that allowed the guy the ability to spend $54K (plus travel expenses) to go hunt lions is most likely going to result in him having to sell his practice (patient lists/records) and most likely render the building it was in is now worth very little. His hobby has severely hurt his earning power and has made him a target of a lot of zealots. You never want to piss off zealots, especially on an international scale.

I hunt and have relatives that hunt. Deer, elk, pheasant, rabbit, black bear even moose although the last two are unedible in my opinion. I don't see the appeal of hunting big game that are endangered, especially on game farms.
