Unfortunately, this isn't the first time that hunters have preyed on Cecil's family. In fact, I heard a story about the time when Cecil's poor Dad was killed and Cecil slowly limped into a watering hole and told the local lions that he was looking for the man who shot his paw.

I'm opposed to killing lions, but I find it hugely ironic (and at least a little hypocritical) how many people who probably eat at McDonalds (et al.) and are outraged about this.

This lion lived free and roamed the land, and he got to mate and hunt and do all sorts of lion shit. There are literally millions of chickens who lived for a few months, packed in cages like sardines in a can (not to mention being de-beaked and provided insufficient nutrition), and then died to make 10 piece chicken nuggets that sell for $2. Their lives are less valuable because lions are cool and chickens are gay?

I get it, I guess, because I think lions are cool and chickens suck, but a life is a life, and I can find no logic in ascribing greater value to one life than to another.

Did he harvest and eat the lion? Was the Lion born and raised to be slaughtered for food?

I think you hit the nail on the head when you said "millions" of chickens. For some reason this lone lion, who had a name, became personalized for a lot of people. Millions of nameless chickens <<<<< one lion named Cecil. Not saying it's right, saying that's the deal

One of the joys of the digital age, at least to many, is the thrill of discovering a new World’s Most Despicable Person. You know the drill: First, some poor sap says or does something dumb or politically incorrect. Next, mobs of wild-eyed, unhinged keyboard cops swoop in to judge, shame, excoriate, and issue over-the-top condemnations. After performing this ritual cleansing, one assumes, those involved feel slightly better about themselves. I was the OP on this mess and the intent was sometimes actions outside your business or workplace have major effects on not only your job and in the case of this dentist, his employees and even whoever owns the mortgage on his practice's building. In the Internet age news travels so fast that anyone with a cursory interest in news knew who killed the lion within 48 hours after the lion was reported dead.

Initially I was willing to think the guy was snuckered into thinking the lion he shot was native to the hunting farm he was "hunting" until the photos of him with his bow posing with the lion's body intact. At that point he knew there was a tracking collar.

Does he deserve death threats for what he did? Hell no. But the guy had a documented history of violating hunting rules in the U.S. He's a hunter who likes to bend rules to fit himself and his lion hunt is going to cost him a helluva a lot more than the $54K that's reported.

World's Most Despicable Person? Not even close. But an arrogant guy who thought he could 'splain his way out of another hunting related misunderstanding? You bet.
