So you’re looking for those plants to bear fruit indoors? That makes sense because I was thinking you were starting early for transplanting outside.

Yes you are supposed to be able to do a garden year round inside

My wife and I really want to get a greenhouse. That would be so fun.

My mom actually did one but it doesn't have any heat so can't use it in the whole winter

So, late fall, early spring? That’s still pretty good. Has she tried growing kale even without heat?

It comes with its own lighting and has an app that can either control it for you or you can control it yourself. We’re total newbs so we opted for the app to control it. Starting next year we will do it ourselves.

My almost five year old is into LEGOs and she doesn't have a problem. I can't imagine it would be too frustrating.

It produces produce all year long! Not 100% sure how well it transitions once one of the plants bolts but if you look in the bottom of the second picture you can see a little dish. That's a mini greenhouse that I'll start sowing the next crop in once this crop starts to transition. You can't have plants that are too young and mature plants going at the same time because they require different feeding, watering, and lighting. I'll add, we had to add a fan on a timer and a humidifier in the room that it's in to "boost" the harvest. The plants really like the air movement and without the proper humidity (hard to get inside during UP winters) the edges of the leaves with brown.

Cherry tomatoes are great in salads and require minimal effort. Regular tomatoes are great in sandwiches, or fried green. Doesn't she understand?

I like the way sliced/diced meld with the salad. Those little fuckers bring nothing to the party. They even try to evade your fork.Floyd Robertson wrote:The Pantry wrote:Cherry tomatoes are for lazy salad makers.

big tomatoes = chili, salsa, marinara sauce, caprese salads, BLT's (with Dukes mayo, of course), etc.The Pantry wrote:Know a few that don't like raw tomato. Love them, but don't care for cherry/grape tomatoes.
cherry tomatoes = sliced in half (long ways), tossed into a number of epicurean dishes to add color and a nice, sweet zing.
I'm prepared to sleep on the couch for this.

I've done a variety of lettuce/spinach variants the last few years. Never all season long. Eventually I get to the point where I have too much and too little time to cultivate it and they start to seed up. Is that what you mean by 'transition'? I've never spent more than a minute researching the best way to grow the stuff. My tactic is seed, water, eat, eat, eat, eat, ohhh fuck it's a mess, winter.
Oh and tomatoes are f'ing gross. Add me to the list.

I was specifically talking about our hydro tower. When some plants bolts, we have to remove them from the tower and start from scratch. In the meantime, we have a dozen or so growing from seeds until they are ready to go into the tower.

It’s Pantry: Consider the source. He’s the fuddy-duddy of the food world.
From a practical standpoint, grape and cherry tomatoes are more fulfilling. Sure, they’re not made for sandwiches, but they work great in salads and are an excellent accompaniment for any lunch or dinner, as is.

Cut in half is my preferred way. Eating one whole is like eating an eyeball or a zit popping in your mouth.
