Re: Random Ramblings
I made Pastys a few weeks ago. Used whole wheat flower and smothered them in catsup. I'm declaring it the superior version and the lower peninsula's very own.

Friends that I’m staying with has a peloton and I’ve rode it every day this week. I can see why people dig it. Simple and peloton definitely took advantage.

You are fucking insufferable. It wasn't about putting ketchup on a pasty, which does not bother me.steveschneider wrote:Cameron wrote:Fucking steve...

Where do you buy whole wheat ?steveschneider wrote:I made Pastys a few weeks ago. Used whole wheat flower and smothered them in catsup. I'm declaring it the superior version and the lower peninsula's very own.
The ridiculousness of ketchup on a pasty aside, if you didn't make the dough with lard and/or didn't put rutabaga in the filling...you didn't make pasty.

So you admit you didn't make pasty. All the ingredients are crucial. You just went through the motions.steveschneider wrote:The Pantry wrote:

There’s nothing Superior about a pasty from below the bridge.

That's just branding and it's puffery but superiority for flavor is subjective.

And, fucking Steve, making pasty is sort of a PITA. I'm disappointed you didn't take pics of your process and finished product.

I actually have a few in the freezer --just counted four left. I spent a Sunday making them all afternoon. I'll post a pic this weekend when it is fresh out of the oven.
Believe it or not I'm actually a decent cook and baker.

We have a great picture of my MIL, my wife, and my daughter sitting at our kitchen table prepping ingredients for making pasties. Three generations of Yooper women, it’s a wonderful thing!

That’s great. I’ll say this even though I make a bastardized version it is a fun meal to spend time and make.

It’s one of my favorite days in the fall when they get together and make pasties. Probably have a few left in the freezer for this weekend.

I tried them for the first time when I was in the UP almost 2 years ago. It was ok. I'd never turn away food, but I wouldn't crave it.

Some place in Munising. And we ate some at a restaurant, I think in Paradise.
If they were offered, I would try them again. As of right now, I don't think I would buy any to bring home again.

Probably Muldoons. They suck.
About 15 miles west of Munising is a tiny little resort community called Au Train with a grocery store/gas station/motel all in one. They have the very best pasties you can buy anywhere. We get them about once a month or so.

Yes, that's where we got them. The restaurant tasted similar too.

How much does the bass player for vampire weekend make?
On just a working musician in a known band that isn't super huge but steadily working?

Re: Random Ramblings
Have a decent desktop at work but it's over 5 years old. Couldn't handle a nearly 2gb file I tried to open yesterday. Wasn't surprised. Co-worker with a much newer computer tried to open the same file with similar result. Our department deals with pretty large files routinely. They usually open after a period of time...sometimes 60 minutes or more.
Our IT guy stopped by. We start talking and he agreed we don't have the firepower for files we receive from clients. Would have been fine with a higher-end desktop/workstation but joked it would be cool to have a laptop workstation.
Got an email this morning from IT guy saying to stop by the corridor. Had me sign on to a brand new Dell laptop workstation with Xeon processor and nVidia graphics card. Will get it tomorrow with docking station. Can hardly wait to check the thing out. Will likely cut hours of wait time every week.
