I'd be worried about storm surge. Not for my house or property but because of kids. Not sure how prone the area these guys are in to flooding from storm surge.

I saw a shot of the turnpike between ft pierce and Orlando, and there were trucks using the Southbound lanes. I only saw trucks, but I assume that they're bringing supplies and whatnot. From Lake Okeechobee on up, which is where most of the traffic jams are, they are still a couple of days from getting really dangerous weather. So I could see them waiting another day.DWags wrote:Robert J Sakimano wrote:

Daytona is the new fallback position #1. Traffic is looking ok according to Google. Looks like the worst might miss Miami.

Re: Hurricane Irma
Intensity and I are both 10+ miles from the coast, so we aren't in storm surge areas. Mentalstate is in a surge warning area less than a mile from the bay, but I think the land rises a little from the bay before his house, though I'm not sure if it's higher than the projected surge. He had a pre-planned flight to Michigan, so I think he's there by now. I think Heat has said that he lives downtown-ish, so he is probably in a storm surge area, but IIRC he's in a high rise.WhiteBoyHatcher wrote:I'd be worried about storm surge. So I think the Miami message board Spartans are safe when it comes to storm surge, at least.

Re: Hurricane Irma
O.K., I just went to the post office. The govenor and safety people are on CNN telling people, "Look, if you're here and your not leaving, don't call for help, we can't give it to you".
I do't know what else they have to say.
My business partners son lives in some place called the "crystal building" or some such thing, on the fourth floor. He put some 20K of storm bloockers in his windows and caught a plane to NY at his wife's parents.
Also, I heard some guy saying most people will die after the storm has left. from falling off roofs doing quick repairs, to drowning to getting crushed by a wall that was weak and they didn't know it.
Godspeed Florida people I hope you all got out or you're safe

Re: Hurricane Irma
Yes, most storm related deaths happen after a storm. Though I don't usually hear about those examples. It's often due to people going out and coming into contact with downed power lines, running their generators indoors or under an open window, and that kind of thing. In other words, storms create more chances for people's stupidity to harm them.DWags wrote:O.K., I just went to the post office. I was at the gym. I'll post them up in a few while I'm on my next call. Looks like full on disaster prep/panic.
I know it sounds terrible, but given the pics you sent me.....you may have to go to Winn Dixie. Or (gasp) - maybe even Albertson's.

Props to the European model for once again nailing the path almost perfectly. As is too often the case, the American model was an also-ran.

??? The European model had the thing turning north sooner so the storm would have stayed in the Atlantic.tGreenWay wrote:Props to the European model for once again nailing the path almost perfectly. As is too often the case, the American model was an also-ran.
