I'd like to stay up and track this thing but I drank too much today. I'm hanging in by a thread. Looks like storm surge will be 6-10 feet where my office is in Tampa.

Lots of tornadoes just went through. Lots of downed trees. Wind hasn't picked up too much yet. Most of tomorrow is supposed to be 60-70 sustained winds.

To Cuba? My buddy has a house in Naples and a boat in the Inter coastal, good thing his premiums are paid. You didn't look like a blue dot last weekend. This has really taken it's toll on you.InTenSity wrote:

Can someone edit the size if needed?
Yeah, that band there just followed that circular path, so it stayed over us a while. Lots of rain dumped.

Wish you had not mentioned premiums. I have a sinking feeling that everyone's insurance premiums across the country are going through the roof next year to cover this hurricane season.InTenSity wrote:To Cuba? None of the big insurance companies cover Florida. That's why we have citizens. I probably won't be able to afford my home though. The Pantry wrote:Wish you had not mentioned premiums. Re: Hurricane Irma
That one big rain band dumped more rain on Intensity and I than anywhere in Florida so far with Irma. Ok, not only on us, but a relatively small swath where that one red band in his picture was. Good times.

Seems to be slowing down? Both in directional speed and inTensity (pun intended). It's now moving NW at 6 mph (was 9 earlier and 12 last night) and twc downgraded it to hitting the FL coast as a Cat 3.

It seems like the current projection is the best case scenario. Not out in the gulf to pick up more steam, not hitting Naples/West coast of FL with Cat 4 speeds, losing steam as it sorta runs up the west coast....Hurricane guys am I wrong?

According to the weather channel guys they were splaining that the extreme low pressure will make it feel worse.WhiteBoyHatcher wrote:It seems like the current projection is the best case scenario. As long as that shit doesn't eventually end up here and fucking up my weekend next week, I'm cool. It has been raining here like a bitch the last three weeks and I'm damn tired of it.....
All kidding aside, and I'm still very worried about all the south Fla swill peeps, I feel a hell of a lot better than I did a few days ago. There is still going to be hell to pay down there, but it could have been MUCH worse. Irma is still no joke........ And I don't think we oughta count our chickens before they are hatched, but it sure is sounding like it is = best case scenario given the circumstances, so I'm sure we are all cool with that.

It's funny how some of these reporters do their live feeds from locations that funnel the wind. ie an avenue with tall buildings.

Strong, gusty winds. High tropical storm force (60-70mph gusts), but maybe about 1/3 of what they're getting in the lower Keys right now.
Still have power and cable for now. Thankful for every minute that it stays on. Power lines are under ground within about 1/2 mile or more, so that helps. But nearly a half million are without power already in Miami-Dade County.
I feel awful for the people in the Keys and the West Coast. Key West has so many old, wooden houses, big trees, and of course is so close to sea level.

Current model shows the eye will pass right over my friend's place in Hernando Beach (north of Clearwater). He and his wife moved there less than 6 months ago. He took this pick from their backyard maybe 6 weeks ago
With a predicted storm surge of 4-6 feet and the eye passing over I doubt his backyard will look like that after.

I have some friends that stayed in Tampa , and they are in zone A. And I think they're house was built before Andrew. Frustrating, when you tell them they have a place to stay here. But they will want to be there to reopen their restaurant and food truck asap.
