My Comcast cable and internet is still up.
Looters in Ft Lauderdale. TV shows them carrryimg boxes of shoes out of a Foot Locker. It will probably inspire others to do it, too. Police aren't patrolling, and won't be until winds are below 45 mph.

Johnny could try it again in the 142mph winds being reported in Naples right now if he's game.

75% of Miami Dade County residents are without power.
I'm in the 25%. Not out of the woods quite yet, but so far power has only gone out twice for less than a minute. I haven't been out to survey my house yet, though. Every time I think about that, I hear some good gusts come along.

Let's be honest there's probably all of them if we can have idiots who have created a breeding Burmese python population in the Everglades we probably also have saltwater crocs and caimans and shit.

The flooding is going to cause the pythons to breed/expand further north. The storm will displace them. I remember reading about it happening after hurricane Andrew.WhiteBoyHatcher wrote:Let's be honest there's probably all of them if we can have idiots who have created a breeding Burmese python population in the Everglades we probably also have saltwater crocs and caimans and shit.

Yep.
We finally went to Gatorland on our Florida trip this year. Holy shit, there are some fucking terrifying dinosaurs out there. Not just in the park, but some of these guys that were in the park were captured in the wild in Florida. Absolutely terrifying.
Hope Irma treats Gatorland well or I'm never going back to Orlando.

When I was on overseas study while at MSU I went to Zimbabwe for two months (summer 1996) with this English chick I met the previous semester. Her uncle had the largest white owned farm in Zim before Mugabe all the farms and gave them away... anyway, we did a safari on Lake Kariba which included lots of canoeing in the tributaries. The first time we went out in the canoes, not more than 20 feet from the boat we were staying on, I saw what looked like a 20 foot long crocodile about three feet below my canoe. I nearly shit my pants. We saw them every where in the shallow water. At night, we went on top of the large boat we were staying on and shined the spotlight across the water and there were red eyes everywhere. It was fucking crazy. We had a cage in the back of the boat so we could swim and at night we pushed off the shore and the guide pulled down gates to keep the lions and hyenas off the boat. Crazy shit.
It seems like you nearly shit your pants a lot.

This is the part of the story I'd like to see you develop further, change the outcome, and be sure to include lots of gratuitous scat sex with the English chick and maybe one of the crocs.

Re: Hurricane Irma
I mentioned this on the other board, but maybe the Florida Spartans can explain....
Everyone keeps mentioning how long they could potentially be without power. I've never lived in Florida, but even before this, my first thought of living in Florida is to have flood insurance and a generator. It seems that most people don't have generators in Florida. Why is this? I get incomes vary, but I'm thinking your avgerage middle class would still have a generator. It's not uncommon for people in MI to have one from storms. I just don't understand it. So maybe someone could explain what I'm missing.

We had a lot of fun that summer. Went to Zim with £750 which was an outrageous amount of money for two months. We went to South Africa and Zambia, along with pretty much everyplace else in Zim. Banged pretty much everywhere. Victoria Falls was awesome. Didn't get to fuck any crocs though.
Well, that's disappointing.

I get that. But I would think 90s/2000s is when people would think it's important if they plan to ride out hurricanes there.

Re: Hurricane Irma
Actuly, there isn't often a need for them. We bought one 2 days after Wilma in 2005, when we were left without power. By the time we got home with it, our power was back on. We figured it was good to keep it for next time. We ran it for an hour or so to try it out, out it in the garage, and haven't needed it since.Dendrobates wrote:I mentioned this on the other board, but maybe the Florida Spartans can explain....

They still seem pretty common to me here. Most of my neighbors have them. But most don't have them wired into the house, and would only use for emergencies, like keeping the fridge going. In that case, I can't run my A.C. off it, so even with a generator, it would still really, really suck to lose power in September when temps and humidity are both in the 90s.
